Race cars have always been forerunners of new technologies. One focus is on reducing weight and therefore research and development departments are looking for light-weight materials at optimal strength. Carbon fiber composite technology is a possible solution for fairings and other parts. First it has been used for race cars or special projects like the solar cars developed by the University of Bochum. Nowadays more and more composite parts made of carbon fiber are used in the automotive industry.
